TallBoy

TallBoy is definitely an after-work bar, and a damn good one. Tallboy is in Mt. Vernon, like a block from the Metro and the convention center, on 9th. I went here with a friend on a Thursday and I was pretty impressed. Their Thursday deal is $5 off any wings. The wings were smoked, not fried, and they were delicious.

Where TallBoy stands out is how cheap regular booze is. They have pitchers of Busch Lite for $23 (I think) and a great list of combos (their online menu is not the actual menu, use my photos for the most up-to-date menu). Their combos are ridiculous. The highlights:

  • Tallboy 'Gansett, whisky and a $1 scratch-off (yes, a scratch off lottery ticket: $10)

  • Tallboy Budweiser, Jameson and a Ring Pop: $10

  • Coors Light longneck and Kentucky Gentleman: $6 (yes, $6)

The atmosphere was pretty good. The decor is fake old newspaper wallpaper, which is eh. The music was a decent mix of newer rap and pop. The TVs had that night's Caps game on and some tennis tournament. The people were a pretty regular after-work crowd, looked like locals and office workers there for happy hour.

Overall, a very solid after-work spot. I will be back.
